A little (well quite big) appeal for help…

Greyhound Gap is a small independent charity set up to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home greyhounds and lurchers who find themselves in a ‘put to sleep’ situation. It operates on a national basis so although their kennels are based in Stoke, they take dogs from pounds all over the UK and re-home dogs on the same basis, relying on volunteers for transporting hounds up and down the UK.

Funded almost entirely by donations, they re-home around 150 dogs each year and there can be up to 80 dogs in their care at any one time, in foster homes or in holding kennels awaiting suitable foster homes.

The founder of the charity has put out a quite desperate appeal recently as the charity is in crisis.

One of the ways I hoped we could help was in relation to bedding, as the kennels are quite desperate for towels, sheets, quilt covers, quilts, pillows, cushions, curtains…. essentially anything that could be made into a bed for a dog in kennels waiting to be rehomed or fostered.

If you have anything like this at home that you are not using, please either bring it along to the March walk or let me know and, assuming you are not too far away,  I will come to collect from you. Jane and I will be going to the kennels in Stoke to  help with dog walks this Saturday and the following week so will take anything collected then. (We will hopefully be returning with a foster brother or sister for Dolly and Marvyn so by the time of the next walk Jane and David may have a new addition!)

Obviously other donations such as food would be very gratefully accepted.

Brave hounds

We did it, 12 hounds and assorted owners wrapped in a variety of Danish-wear, the walk went ahead yesterday. We were rewarded with a stunning river walk, the sun bouncing off the snow, kids tabogganing and a cup of tea back at the Fulford Arms.

Next walk: Sunday 4th March. 10 am for a 10.30 start. see you there 🙂

This Sunday’s walk is on – come snow, hail, etc

We’ll be there on Sunday 5th February, despite the snow and ice, with hounds wrapped up like pasties (we have new snoods, made from old sweatshirt sleeves) so we hope you can join us (although to be fair, we don’t anticipate a huge turnout…!).

So, for the brave, see you at 10 am for a 10.30 start at the Fulford Arms (More Than just a Pub), Fulford Road.
